Summary

Past sea level changes had a strong impact on sedimentation processes of continental margins and epicontinental seas. Various methods have been developed for paleobathymetric reconstructions, including geophysical, sedimentological, geochemical and paleontological approaches. In this context, foraminifers proved particularly useful for accurate sea level reconstructions over a wide bathymetric range and on different time scales. Quantitative methods have been developed, e.g. based on the planktic-to-benthic ratio or the distribution patterns of certain indicator taxa. This session invites contributions on foraminifer-based methods for sea level reconstructions on time-scales from decades to millions of years. Major target of this session is to update our knowledge on the potential, applicability, and limitation of quantitative sea level reconstructions.
